History

In 1868, Dubuque became the 2nd city west of the Mississippi to offer public transportation. Trolleys were either horse drawn, steam-powered or electric.

Well over 150 years since the first trolley traveled the streets of Dubuque, a small group of investors had the vision to bring back the trolleys in 1987. In 1992, Don and Charlene Naumann purchased the trolleys. Don and Charlene collaborated with the Dubuque Community School District to bring the 3rd grade classroom on tour with the trolleys to see the many historical sights the students were studying. This tradition has carried on for over 30 years.

Today, the trolleys provide an air of nostalgia and safe transportation to view the oldest city in Iowa.
